Mark English qualified from heat two of the boys 1000m at the Bishan Athletics Stadium this morning . English's heat was the fastest of the two qualification heats with Mohamed Geleto from Ethiopia winning in a time of 2:24:40 . English was 6th fastest overall with a time of 2:25:39.

Ireland started very nervously and allowed New Zealand to run at them and dominate. New Zealand converted one of five penalty corners in the first ten minutes. The introduction of Chloe Brown added a confidence and vitality to the team.

Denise Walsh finished 6th in her semi final and subsequently qualified for the B final on the 18th August, which guarantees her a top twelve finish. Walsh has been receiving treatment for an ear infection but will hopefully recover to put in strong performance in this first ever Youth Olympic rowing event.

Denise Walsh has qualified for the Youth Olympic single sculls semi final following an excellent performance this morning at Marina Reservoir Singapore.She has been drawn in the first semi final tomorrow, 17th August, against opponents from Latvia, Germany, Cuba, China and Croatia. The top 3 will qualify for the A final.
