Richard is a double Olympian and a former GB number 1 with a world ranking of 7 in men’s singles. As a coach, he created his own Welsh badminton academy, which has developed a number of highly successful international players, and as a director in the Catalan Badminton Federation Richard initiated the schools’ development programme and founded the Catalan Coach Education programme. Richard has also worked in Spain with the Catalan Sports Council. Until recently he had been working with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on the “Road to London Africa project” which is designed to maximise participation from the African continent. He met fellow Olympian and OCI Chief Executive, Stephen Martin as part of his induction into his new position.Badminton players Scott Evans, Chloe and Sam Magee are the leading Irish players on the international single and doubles circuit and have the best possibilities to qualify for London. Vaughan is looking forward to having a positive impact from an adminstrative, performance and participation level.
