Double Olympic Medallist Paddy Barnes visited St Clare’s Primary School in Belfast today and received a fantastic welcome from 120 P5 – P7 pupils.
Nine pupils in the school are already active members of local boxing clubs and they especially were taken by the insight into the day to day lifestyle of one of Ireland’s top boxers.
Paddy is an enthusiastic participant in the Olympic Council of Ireland schools initiative, realising the positive impact he can have on his local community .
Olympic Council of Ireland Chief Executive Stephen Martin interviewed Paddy and also gave the school an insight into preparations for Rio 2016 – he said “the programme features outstanding Irish Olympians sharing experiences about the positive impact sport has had on their lives within their local community.Paddy spent significant time with students chatting, being photographed and signing autographs”
Our special thanks to the pupils and teachers for their support this morning.
