Irish Speed Skater Sean McAnuff Takes On Short Track Worlds

Sean McAnuff carries Irish hopes that this weekend’s International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track Speed Skating World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria (8-10 March).

 

McAnuff will be making his World Short Track debut in the Bulgarian capital tomorrow Friday 8 March among skaters from 36 countries with the preliminary rounds of the 500 and 1000 metres and the quarter-finals of the 1500 metres. Subsequent rounds will take place on Saturday 9 March and Sunday 10 March.

 

The 2018/2019 season has been a very successful one for McAnuff with two new national records in the 500 and 1000 metres and maintaining two spots for Ireland at the European Championships next season back in January.

 

“My preparations for this event have gone really well, so I am excited to just get out there and race,” McAnuff said. “I am also of course honoured and proud to be representing Ireland for the first time at Worlds.”

 

The World Short Track Speed Skating Championships have been held annually since 1976 with Ireland participating since 2017. This year’s championships will be streamed live on the ISU Skating Channel.
