Triathlon Test Event

August 6, 2011

Morrison had a decent swim (in the Serpentine water)  and managed to get herself into the leading pack of 30 riders ( 7 laps taking in Hyde Park Corner, Constitution Hill and Buckingham Palace) and stayed with this group until the next transition phase.

She lost about 5 places as she was blocked from parking her bike by three athletes coming up the inside. Click here to watch the transition phase.

However she improved her position in the 4 lap run course around the Serpentine to finish 18th overall.

Performance Director Chris Jones said ” Aileen has lost some time recently due to a virus and she had some injury issues coming into the race, but Deidre Burrell did a great job to have her fit enough to be on the start line. It was a very solid performance and we are pleased to have the first opportunity to trial the London 2012 course” Hear Chris Jones’s post match interview with Stephen Martin here

In attendance today OCI’s Stephen Martin, Matt McKerrow and Chris Jones Triathlon Ireland, and Ireland Chef de Mission Sonia O’Sullivan , pictured below.

The race was won by Britain’s Helen Jenkins who booked her place in the 2012 London Games.

Jenkins has been struggling with a cold all week but produced a dominant performance on the 10-kilometres run to ensure she met the Olympic qualification criteria.

The 27-year-old picked up her first WCS win and climbed to fourth in the world rankings after crossing the line seven seconds ahead of Gwen Jorgensen of the USA, with German Anja Dittmer in third.
