Statement from the IOC regarding Sochi

September 30, 2013

Clearly the olympic charter guarantees that participants can take part in the Games free of discrimination on grounds of race sex or sexuality.
The IOC have received assurances from the very highest levels of overnment in Russia that the charter will be upheld and participants will not be affected by this law. The IOC have had written reassurances from Deputy Prime Minister Kozak and verbal reassurances from President Putin.

Of course, the IOC cannot comment on the laws of any sovereign nation whether or not they agree or disagree with them, as a sporting body we must leave this to international organizations and to governments.
